Members Value Monthly Events, Want More Local Offerings
Denise Parker from Southern California Edison
Wins Flip Video Camera for Survey Participation
June 2008 - Thanks to everyone who completed the 2008 IABC-LA Member survey! The board of directors is still in the processes of analyzing all of the data, but we thought you might want to see some of the top-level results and understand how your feedback will influence our event offerings for this new board year (July 1 – June 31).
Everyone who completed the survey had the opportunity to enter a drawing for a Flip video camera, and we are excited to announce that Denise Parker from Southern California Edison was our lucky winner. Congratulations, Denise!
Response Rate
About 20 percent of our IABC-LA members responded to the survey. Thank you!
Value of Membership
We are pleased to report that 88% of respondents consider their IABC-LA membership either “somewhat” or “very” valuable.
Respondents found the most value in our monthly professional development and networking events, the job listings posted here on the site, and chapter emails with event information and chapter updates.
Event Timing and Locations
Many respondents expressed a desire to have more events in their neighborhood; and respondents were fairly evenly split between wanting breakfast, lunch and evening meetings.
Beginning in August we will resume our monthly professional development events schedule, so watch for update emails or check back here in July to see upcoming event dates, locations and topics.
We will continue to do our best to move the professional development events around the L.A. area rotating them between the following locations:
- South Bay
- Downtown L.A. / West L.A.
- Glendale / Burbank / Pasadena
- Thousand Oaks / Woodland Hills
We will try to offer a variety of meeting times and days to accommodate your busy schedules and we are looking into offering some meetings as webcasts in case you’re interested in the topic but can’t make it in person.
About You
50% of IABC-LA members who responded to the survey are at the manager/director level. 63% have worked in communications for more than 10 years and nearly half have been IABC-LA members for less than 5 years.
In response to the question, “At this point in your career, what is your biggest professional challenge,” answers primarily fell into two categories: time management issues and the need to grow professionally and gain new skills.
We look forward to providing you with events and information that will help you grow, network, and stay connected to the latest communication trends and best practices.
We hope to see you at an upcoming event!
