Christie Ly
President

Christie Ly is Vice President of Rose & Kindel / Grayling and has more than a decade of combined experience as a communications consultant and broadcast journalist. Christie develops and manages programs for clients in a wide variety of industries and issues including consumer goods and services, CSR / community relations, economic development, green technology / environment, real estate, and urban development and revitalization. She has managed communications programs and press events for clients such as Accenture, Allstate Insurance, The Coca-Cola Company, Central City Association of Los Angeles, Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Ford Motor Company, Global Green USA, Los Angeles Urban League, Thomson Reuters and Vapur.

Prior to Rose & Kindel / Grayling, Christie was a Director at Burson-Marsteller in Los Angeles. She also has held positions at Ruder Finn and Travelzoo. At Travelzoo, an internet media company, she was the director of public relations and helped build the PR department from the ground up. Her experience also includes working at RLM Public Relations and as a television reporter at the local NBC affiliate in Columbia, Mo.

Christie has bachelor’s degrees in journalism and international business from the University of Missouri. She is the current President of the Los Angeles chapter of International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and volunteers for L.A. Works. She also served on the Executive Committee of Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Corporate Social Responsibility section.

Jamie Lipson
Immediate Past President

Jamie Lipson is a freelance writer specializing in employee communications including website and newsletter content. Prior to starting her freelance business, Jamie worked in employee communications for the Transportation Systems division of Honeywell International Inc., a Fortune 100 technology and manufacturing company. She also spent many years in publishing at Primedia and Workforce Magazine.

This is Jamie's fourth year on the IABC-LA Board of Directors. She previously held the positions of Chair, Regional Networking and Events for the South Bay and Long Beach area (2007-2008), VP of Member Involvement( 2004-2005), and VP of Member Services (2004 – 2005).

Paula Cassin
President-Elect and Secretary

Building on fifteen years’ experience in various corporate Marketing and Sales roles, Paula currently is a Director of Cut Through Communications LLC, a technology company entirely focused on corporate communications. Cut Through Communications provides new and powerful ways to get messages to staff using exclusive desktop alert tools which reduce information overload, drive up response rates, and ultimately improve engagement.

Prior to this, Paula’s career spanned many corporate Marketing and Sales roles in computer companies, most recently for Gen-I New Zealand, the leading New Zealand ICT company. Her responsibilities included managing client relationships with companies like L’Oreal, Nestle, Pernod Ricard, Frucor (Danone), and Smith & Smith (Belron). Paula graduated in 1992 from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in International Relations – Commerce and a minor in French.

Paula is passionate about comms (in any medium), coffee, and her children Caleb, Clara and Lily. She’s using her free time right now to attend Open Air Fitness boot camp five days a week and also to get going on her personal blog on ‘compassion and the free market.’


Michael Timmerman
Treasurer

Michael Timmermann is a communications professional with 25 years of experience. He has held communications positions in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and financial services. From 2000-2008, Michael served as Vice President of Communications for Honeywell Transportation Systems, a $5 billion global automotive supplier. He joined Honeywell in 1996 in its Aerospace division. Prior to joining Honeywell, Michael held communications positions at Allergan and City National Bank.

Michael's experience includes the full complement of communications disciplines, including media relations, marketing communications, internal communications, executive speech writing, investor relations and community relations. Michael graduated from UCLA with a degree in Communications Studies and has been a member of IABC since the mid-1980s.

Danielle L. Scott
Chair, Website

Danielle is Managing Editor of the Graziadio Business Report and the GBR Blog, online publications of Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management. She works with authors to help them develop their ideas and answer the tough questions and takes charge of all technology, PR, and marketing initiatives. In 2009, Danielle began doing video interviews with top business leaders for the GBR and GBR Blog and she loves it! You can view her LinkedIn profile here.

Danielle also enjoys freelance editing and consulting projects and has worked on a number of upcoming business titles for Berrett-Koehler Publications, Inc., including the recently published Mission Inc.: The Practitioner's Guide to Social Enterprise by Kevin Lynch and Julius Walls, Jr., Glow: How You Can Radiate Energy, Innovation, and Success by London Business School Professor Lynda Gratton, and Leaders Make the Future by Institute for the Future former president and CEO Bob Johansen.

Previously, Danielle served as Assistant Director of Public Relations and Communications at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and an editor for Money Laundering Alert, a financial trade publication on anti-money laundering compliance. Danielle graduated from the University of Miami, with a BS in Communication majoring in Journalism and English Literature. Currently, she is pursuing her MBA at Pepperdine's business school. Originally from Trinidad, she lived in Miami for seven years before moving to Los Angeles in 2007--best decision of her life!

Jessica Schlotter
Co-Chair, Membership

Jessica is a marketing director for a private school in Los Angeles. She has over seven years experience in marketing communications, sales, and business development. She is accomplished at developing original programs and advancing an organization’s mission.

Passionate about travel, culture, and food, she lived in Asia, South America and Europe for six years after graduating from college. Jessica holds a B.A. in Communication from Arizona State University. This is her second year as the Membership Co-Chair on the IABC-LA Board of Directors.

Pamela Corante, ABC
Co-Chair, Membership

Pamela’s 20-plus year career in public relations spans the non-profit, private and government sectors. As principal of Letra Nova Communications, she helps clients put their best face forward through clear, concise and compelling written communications in Spanish and English. A native Spanish-speaker of Peruvian heritage, Pamela’s specialty is multicultural communications. Current clients include a luxury guest ranch in Uruguay, a children’s advocacy organization and an organic skin care product line.

Earlier in her career, Pamela served as the Spanish-language spokesperson for the American Red Cross Los Angeles Chapter. As a senior account executive at PainePR, she worked with travel, health care and nonprofit clients. In her position as associate director of media relations at UCLA, she secured international news coverage for one of the university’s nanotechnology institutes, among other programs. As corporate communications manager at AT&T, Pamela oversaw statewide multicultural communications and later joined the company’s public affairs group. Her work has garnered numerous awards.

Pamela holds a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish literature from the University of California, Irvine. A voracious reader, she enjoys traveling, cooking and leading historic downtown walking tours as a volunteer docent for the Los Angeles Conservancy.

Rebecca Mikkelsen, APR

Chair, Regional Networking & Events for Pasadena / Burbank / Glendale

Rebecca has more than two decades of experience in marketing communications, public relations, brand development and messaging through work for multinational, publicly-traded companies, including media giant Clear Channel Communications, software maker Assure Software, and one of the nation’s leading global logistics providers, Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. She has provided strategic communications and issues management counsel to clients and employers in a broad range of primarily business to business service industries, including computer and satellite technology, real estate development, global logistics, media and economic development. She earned bachelor’s degrees in broadcasting and business from Trinity University in her native Texas. In addition to her work for IABC-LA, Rebecca also serves as co-chair of the accreditation committee of PRSA-LA.

Helen Porter
Chair, Member Communications

Helen serves as Manager, Employee Communications at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). Her core responsibilities include management, development, oversight, and content creation for SPE's employee intranet. She has over eight years experience in copywriting, communication and marketing, and has previously worked at Loyola Marymount University, Variety.com, Society for Human Resource Management and Time Inc.

Helen holds an MA in communication management from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication, and received her BS in marketing and international business from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

In addition to serving as a board member for IABC Los Angeles, Helen is an active member of CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment and a volunteer for the Lollipop Theater Network.

Debra Meadows
Chair, Holiday Tea Party and June Awards Dinner

Debra Meadows is Principal of Grand Finale Events!, an award-winning full-service event agency. Her motto is “Inspiring Lives Through Events and Travel.” Debra is an event-planning professional with more than 10 years’ experience in special events, multi-day event programs, conference planning, and corporate meetings. This self-described “foodie and solopreneur” is passionate about creating special events in awe-inspiring locations where guests can learn, play, and share together. Debra works with corporations, non-profits, and individuals on projects of all sizes. Past clients have been the University of Southern California Department of Public Policy, the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute, Executive Travel Directors, The 10th Annual Los Angeles Vendor Fair, and Schwarzkopf Professional in Maui. Debra supports IABC-LA by planning and coordinating chapter events, including the annual June Gala. She received rave reviews for the 2009 Dodger Stadium dinner meeting that included a behind-the-scenes tour of the famed venue.

An IABC member since 2008, Debra understands how communication plays an important role in her business. She considers “tone in both written and visual communications to ensure clients are clear and comfortable with services they are contracting.”

Debra attends California State University Long Beach, with a Bachelors of Arts degree expected in December 2010.

Kerry L. Bonner
Chair, PR/Sponsorships

Kerry is a communications professional with international brand marketing and marketing communications experience. Most recently, she worked with healthcare agencies in Southern California, helping promote products such as Amgen’s ENBREL®, Allergan’s LAP-BAND SYSTEM®, and Roche’s anemia drug MIRCERA®. Based in Brussels for ten years, Kerry has traveled extensively in Europe and worked with a variety of international companies – American, Belgian, British, Danish, French, Dutch, German and Japanese. She conducted media relations with various international journalists and PR agencies. Fluent in French, Kerry is also knowledgeable in basic Dutch, Russian and Spanish.

Currently, Kerry is looking for her next opportunity in the healthcare industry, in digital/interactive media, or in international corporate communications. In the meantime, Kerry is volunteering her talents at South Bay Professional Association (SBPA), where executive, technical and managerial professionals help one another rejoin the SoCal workforce. (SBPA is affiliated with the State of California Educational Development Department (EDD)). Kerry also is lending her marketing communications skills for two product launches.

Cheryl Farrell
Chair, Regional Networking & Events for Thousand Oaks/Woodland Hills

Cheryl Farrell is an award-winning communicator with a career that spans broadcast media to corporate banking. As a volunteer, she writes and speaks on behalf of advocacy organizations such as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

For seven years beginning in 2001, Cheryl appeared on the popular television quiz show, Jeopardy! as a member of the Clue Crew. She travelled around the world presenting information about science, history, and culture.

Earlier in her career, she worked in commercial banking as Vice President Treasury Manager, as well as VP Communications Manager. In the treasury role, she was account executive to clients in corporate and government finance. In the later role, she developed and executed an internal communications plan, earning a CINDY award for an industrial video, “Faces of Diversity.”

One of Cheryl’s passions is to raise awareness about type 1 (juvenile) diabetes that affects her son and millions of children like him. She created a personal website with messages of hope at Bay Heart Music. She also met with Federal legislators on the matter of funding research for a cure.

Cheryl returned to IABC-LA in 2008, renewing her membership from graduate school. She currently serves as editor of IABC member profiles and relishes the opportunity to deliver compelling biographical stories. Increasing her IABC responsibilities in 2009, she joined the Board of Directors as Chair for regional networking events.

Cheryl holds a M.A., Communications Management from the USC Annenberg School and a B.A., Economics from UCLA.

T.J. Stevko
Chair, Regional Networking & Events for Downtown L.A./Westside

T.J. recently started at Mercer as a Communications Specialist where he drafts and edits benefit plans and assists with developing communication strategies and work plans. Prior to joining Mercer, he held various communications positions for CaseStack and Vivendi Games. In May of 2007, T.J. graduated from The Anneneberg School for Communication at USC with his master's degree in Communication Management.

Now that he is finally out of school, T.J. is looking to become more involved with the IABC-LA community as Chair, Regional Networking & Events for Downtown L.A.
